There are no pictures, most unfortunately:(
What you need:
- 50 grams pure BAQ henna for short hair, 100 grams for shoulder length to collar bone, or 150 grams and up for longer, depending on your hair length.
- lemon juice (bottled is easier to do). If you feel like lemon juice will dry out your hair too much, consider water with a tbsp of another acid, such as red wine or apple cidar vinegar.
- a plastic or wooden bowl and spoon (metallic dishes can react with the henna in a bad way).
- plastic wrap or a plastic hair cap
- plastic or rubber gloves
- towels for messes
- and lastly, you definitely need plenty of TIME(:
First things first:
Mix henna with lemon juice/water mixture until the consistency of mashed potatoes or yogurt in your bowl, with your spoon.
This is where it gets time consuming and a little tricky.
You have to let your henna sit in the bowl for 4-24 hours, depending on the temperature in your house.
The warmer it is, the sooner you can use the henna.
For example, if its HOT, over 90 degrees, you can let it sit for only 2-4 hours. You'll know when its ready when you take your spoon, and run it over the top of the henna. If the top layer is brown but the under layer is green, its ready for use.
If its around 70 degrees, let sit for about 12 hours.
If its cold, like 60 degrees or lower, let sit for 24 hours.
Once you have that brown and green layered look, you can proceed to the next step:
Put on your gloves, cover your work area with towels or newspaper, and get to work!
Start at the crown of your head, and take an inch section of hair. SLATHER that baby with a glop of poo.
The more you use, the better. DON'T be stingy.
Once that section is done, wrap it in a pin curl, and start on another nearby section. Wrap that one around the first pin curl.
Repeat until your entire head is covered in brownish green glop.
Put on your hair cap or wrap your hair with plastic wrap, maybe even a towel on top of it for warmth, and do your nails or watch a movie or two.:)
You have to let it sit for AT LEAST 2 hours. It doesn't damage your hair, so if you let it sit all day, it wouldn't really matter (just might give you a headache from the weight).
When you rinse, you can either:
a. Do the mermaid soak, which is taking a bath and just letting your hair soak in the bath water, then taking a shower and getting it out that way, or
b. Just rinse in the shower for a long time.
And I mean it, a long LONG time. Henna is tricky to rinse out. Just keep rinsing until the water runs clear, then use a protein free, slippery conditioner, such as Suave naturals, or Vo5. Rinse that out really good, and repeat if desired.
Don't shampoo hair for at least 24 hours so you can let the color set.
This is the most simple henna mix and directions I can think of. Thank you for reading(:
